Growing Up

Sunday, May 23, 2010

We weren't able to go to the gym yesterday because we had company in the morning and then the oldest granddaughter showed up (with her overnight bag packed just in case we'd let her spend the night. Of course she spent the night.)

Kynzi is 11 years old this month--which in itself is hard to believe. I remember when...But anyhow, I digress. The issue was that we had to get to the gym today before all our muscles atrophied--but what to do with the kid??

I suggested something rather daring--let's leave her here alone for an hour in the middle of the day. I confirmed with her mom that it would be okay and then talked to Kynzi about it and she said that she would be fine. I gave her a thousand instructions and as we were walking out the door, I said, "And don't forget..." Kynzi answered, "I know, I know! If anyone rings the doorbell, just ignore them and they'll eventually go away." I was happy that at least she'd been paying attention.

Okay. Maybe I'm a tad overprotective. We said goodbye at the door and as she was shutting it, the little turd looked me right in the eye and chanted, "Party! Party! Party!" just before she locked it.

Pretty good sense of humor for a kid her age.

Haha, that's great the way she got you with the "Party, party party" line! Sounds like she's got a sense of humor and a strong sense of self, to be OK with being on her own while you were gone. Good job helping her grow up, a bit at a time!

Great story! Usually kids are way more mature than we give them credit for. I'm sure that she was great alone for a few minutes!

Hmmm.....I am wondering if that little acorn did not get her sense of humor from her favorite g-ma.
