endurance is a pleasure

Saturday, May 22, 2010

I thought I would work out a little more today because I missed a couple days of exercise this week. I was up early and felt good so I thought I would try for an hour on the treadmill. Usually, I just exercise for a half-hour walking or on the treadmill. And in encouragement I originally started out in the very beginning of my weight loss journey with just 20 minutes on the treadmill. So, here you can see how far I've come. Today, I said "self", "try to exercise for an hour today". Then I started off slowly on the treadmill and worked up to 3.0 mph. I actually was going 3.2 after 6 minutes with slight elevation. So at 20 minutes I said to myself, "Ok, just make it to 1.5 miles, you can do it!!" And I did. Then i said, "Just make it to 45 minutes" "Don't give up" Then I made it to 45 minutes, I said in my mind, " You've made it this far why not make it to 3.0 miles!!!" Last I exclaimed!! "only a few minutes to go!!" I then slowed down at 55 minutes gradually decreasing my speed. This is so my heart rate will slow down to a safe pace before jumping off the treadmill. I was sweaty but it was a good sweat. "Yayy" I congratulated myself and placed my hand on my back and gave a couple of pats. You have worked on endurance and can stay in there and I can too. Over time it will be easier and easier. I can endure!!! emoticon

I used to do that on the bike. Go for the minutes, then notice how close I was to the next complete mile, so I would go for that. Then notice it was only a few minutes away from the next 15 minute increment, so I'd go for that. Always striving to make complete mile end with even 15 minute increments. Got a lot of extra exercise doing that. We can do so much more than we think we can:)
    Good for you!
