Fresh fruit ! wow it really kept me full and day! shortnsweet blog

Friday, May 21, 2010

Hi there,

My mum has been on this weight loss journey weight gain lose gain for a long time, things i remember throughout my childhood growing up with seeing what she tried, did and didn’t do and now iam pretty much doing the same.
She has had her knees totally re constructed because of years of being overweight and a job as a hair dressing standing all day long, and then my resent visit to my doctor because of my hip pain getting worse and worse it has made me realise the x ray or blood tests to determine if its arthritis or hip wearing out is NOT going to magically make me better. I need to try try try to get this weight off.

Mum always went back to (because she would get bored and stop and then realise she should keep going) eating Fresh fruit salads for breakfast and lunch and some yummy veggies at dinner, (only just recently started eating meats again) and she noticed a huge weight difference, energy levels were great, skin looked felt better. So iam going to give it a go and try to stick to it, i ideally want to get to a weight were i have more energy firstly so i can exercise in the mornings and after i get home from work and done the mother/partner chores, instead of dropping like a sack of potatoes on bed.

some photos i have taking of my first 3 days on eating fresh fruit breakfast and lunch (dinner has been a little difficult getting the veggies bit but i have gone for the weightwatchers’ meal portions from the local supermarket (omg they are tiny portions! but maybe there’s my problem, which I’ve mentioned in other blogs.. I eat 2-3 portion sizes to much??)

Fresh fruit!

Breakfast with some oats

Lunch with yogurt

I have felt full throughout the day and although iam not used to eating it i'am handling the new feeling, taste etc

have you got any ideas that you enjoy for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner??

Tricia xx

Here are a couple things I've been trying to pump up the fruit and veggie intake:

    1. I added an "Other Goal" here on Spark People that says "Chop fruits and veggies 3X per week". It has really helped to get me to go in the kitchen and get some produce ready to eat. My biggest problem was throwing out tons of what I had bought, without even trying to eat it during the week.

I chop onions, garlic and what ever else I have on hand. That way I can use it when I need it. After a couple of days, I chop again and that has really helped me.

    2. I buy fruit and veggies that are on sale even when I'm not sure what to do with them. I can at least eat them raw once I chop them or I can look on Spark Recipes when I get home. This way I get more variety and don't spend too much money.

I love your photos, everything looks wonderful. I usually mix dried fruit in my oatmeal before cooking, but maybe I will try the fresh after seeing this.

I agree with the other comment you got. Just keep trying until you find what works for you. Increasing protein has helped me a lot in feeling full, but we all have our own paths.

Are you on the Eat Clean or Eat to Live teams? Eat to Live is all about working toward a 90% plant food diet. You might get some good ideas from either of these!

As for fruit, I like fruit and soy milk smoothies in the morning. I add a bit of cinnamon (for blood sugar regulation) and a bit of flax seed (for omega 3s). It's an easy way to get servings of fruit!

As I just told someone else, I think we have to find our own combination of what works for us. A little at a time, I have to believe it will all come together!

I'm boring. I have porridge pretty much every day.
for a change I have a smoothie, but I put oats in that too usually. emoticon

those bags of mixed salad leaves make a quick meal, just add some tuna and tomato etc and its a meal.

soup is great this time of year. lots of veggies or just a few. thats whats great about soup. you choose. Pumpkins are cheap and make yummy thick soup.
