A new look

Monday, May 17, 2010

I am faced with taking a new look at my goals and seeing if I can better express what my goals are.

I cannot just say "I need to lose weight to better my health." I need to say something like..."I will lose weight so my sugar doesn't freak my doctor out anymore." Taking a blood test 45 minutes after eating an entire box of SUDDENLY SALAD was a STUPID thing to do!

I cannot just say "I want to walk upstairs to my apartment without being winded just once!" I need to say something like... "Within the next month, I will have lost 10 pounds and I will be able to walk up the stairs of my apartment without feeling like my chest is going to blow up!"

I cannot just say "I need more sleep." I need to say something like..."I will go to bed EVERY night at 11 pm. And I will sleep no longer than 20 minutes during the day."

These are more achievable goals. They are more specific to my problems and my needs. I can break these goals down into daily or weekly steps for achieving them. This gives me more focus on what I want to accomplish. These are health goals and not life goals, but these will do for a start.

More to come.....

Good idea! Being vague about our goals just does not work!

Good for you!!! If our goals are distinct, they seem to be easier to break. If we spell them out in very certain terms, they are easier to work toward.

    You can do it!!!!

Sounds like you are off to a great start. Good job on pinpointing exactly what your goals are instead of a generalized statement.
