Peachtree Roadrace Training Update

Well, bumped up the mileage again this week - ran 5 miles yesterday, with another quarter of a mile walking cool down at the end.

But I don't think I could have run another 1.2 miles though - I was pretty tired at the end of the run. Maybe could have made it another half mile...but no way I could have made it 10K without walking.

Only 6 weeks left to the Peachtree though...and once again, there will be the heat factor to consider. And my Achilles are still really bothering me too.

Getting a little nervous.

I wish I could lose some more weight - that would really help I bet as I still have about 30 - 35 lbs to lose. But my weight loss has really slowed in recent weeks. Not exactly sure why...but last month I lost only 5 lbs...and this is while running 18 - 20 miles a week plus doing some other cardio and strength work (riding spinning bike, Power 90, Slim in 6, etc).

Oh well..I'll keep plugging along. Regardless, I'm happy to be able to run 5 miles, considering the fact that on January 1, I was huffing and puffing after running one minute.

    You have made huge progress, and you should be justly proud of that. Even if you do have to walk some portion of the race (and you may not, you still have lots of time to train), you have still come so far, and are in a much better place now than you were in January. That is a victory in and of itself!

    Take a look at some other measurements besides the scale.

    The running fact you mentioned in your blog is a good example of how your fitness is getting better and that your health is improving.

    Ewww the heat, I hate heat, maybe you should run with winter clothes on to get used to the heat( ok that sounds funny)

    No complaining when you lost 5 pounds, that is great.

    You have my blessings and my respect! No desire to do the Peachtree. You have the heat, the humidity and hundreds of humans... dont forget them, the tens of thousands of them. Will you be able to run part of the course before the race? i know there are a few groups that do that as part of the training!! All the best to you. Look forward to reading your successful race report when it is all said and done.

    Also, you might not realize it but losing 5 pounds in a month is good! It really is!

    You are doing AWESOME. Sometimes it's hard to keep perspective on how far we've come - we have a tendency to focus on where we want to go, and the fact that we aren't there yet. Good for you that you can still reach back to January 1 and realize what tremendous changes you've made in your life!
