Finally,....I have storage all cleaned out and my shed is de-junked too. It is so nice to be able to fit my bike in the shed instead of having it exposed to the elements. I also really like being able to go into the basement and not have it looked like a bomb struck!
So.....my plan was not to go to storage so I wouldn't take anything home with me besides the futon and my electric piano. That plan didn't work. I had to go. The good thing is that I didn't find much to keep. A few articles of clothing...very few and mostly night clothes. My book collection of my favorite author. I had thought of that over the years and missed it. A coffee table that matches the futon.....and the piece I was almost the most excited about....my Health Rider. It's like a combination of a quad press and a rowing machine.
I had bought the Health Rider back in the 90's when Covert Bailey (MIT Persona) was touting it on tons of infomercials as the best exercise machine ever! It looked easy...it looked fun...it looked like something I'd do. So I bought it and I eagerly removed it from the box ready to ride myself into fitness. It wasn't easy....due to number 1 it wasn't fun (I couldn't do it) and it became an extra coat rack in the den. But, there it sat in storage. My health rider. I took it out and right there on the warehouse floor, I tried it, It will be a fabulous exercise for my knees, my quads, my biceps, my back. I liked it so much I asked the 1-800-Got Junk guys if they would bring it to my house for me (they were coming to clean out the shed after storage), they happily did. (The rest of my stuff if being brought by the storage people). I used my health rider for 3 minutes that night. I used it for 4 minutes the following day, and I managed 5 minutes today. This machine is not easy. It's tough! My biceps and quads are "good" sore. My knees are being safely worked. I My heart rate is elevated while doing it. It is aerobic and I really feel like I am doing something worthwhile. Even though I have a bladder infection, I followed the health rider today with 15 minutes on the treadmill.
My plan is to do 5 minutes on the Health Rider 3-4 times per week for a week, then do 15-30 minutes of cardio by either biking, walking, using the treadmill or a combination of it all. Then I will extend my time on the Health Rider by 1-2 minutes per week. That's my plan. Please ask me from time to time how I am doing with it.
