Need Advice On Calorie Intake!

Thursday, May 13, 2010

Am I o.k. if I take in between 1400 and 1800 calories a day??

Spark is recommending 2000-2400. I just can't eat that much food!

My gym work outs can be intense. I log about 120-150 minutes a day of cardio.

Plus I'm 27 y/o, sedentary (completely sitting) job, weigh 186.

Is 1400 calories just down right unhealthy for me? Or am I just going to lose weight faster?

I stay in the recommended ranges in fat & protein... I come shy on carbs and calories...

Someone give me some advice...Maybe there is a nutritionist out there?

I am actually having major issues with this too. SP recommends 1,700 to 2,100 calories for me...I eat less than that without dieting. And same goes for fat they recommend a minimum of 45 grams, I am usually somewhere around 30 grams. But I think that I am really hurting my goals when I exercise for an hour to two hour daily and my typical intake is between 900 and 1300. If I eat more I feel like I need to work out more and if I don't work out long enough I eat way less. Any thoughts?

Wow! I'm actually surprised at the recommended levels! Is it because of the amount you work out? Spark recommends between 1,200 - 1,500 for me and I'm 194 now. Go you for the workouts!!!! I'm still too shy to walk into my gym. I just pay for the membership every month...

I am not a nutritionist but I have read a whole lot of information on this. LOL The thing is you want to eat enough to fuel your workout and sustain fat burning after your workout. If you do not get enough then your body will start burning muscle and you do not want to do that.

I actually read an interesting post about this on a blog I read She actually tells you in what order your body burns what, but I don't remember it. You'd have to scroll back to maybe last week or the week before if you want to check it out.

My suggestion would be to try to eat at least at the lower end of SP's recommendation or the higher end of yours. For that amount of exercise, I do believe 1400 cals would be way too little. On the days I exercise I HAVE to eat at least 1600 and I typically burn between 300-500 cals during my workouts.

Like I said I am no nutritionist...just someone who has been at this for a long time the wrong way and is now trying to do it the right way.Good luck. :)
