First 2 races under my belt in less than a week AND I've already signed up/committed to 4 more

Sunday May 2nd I participated in my first race -> the first Heart of a Spartan 10K in East Lansing, Michigan. The 3 ladies that I have been training with from Team PlayMakers White Team were there with me at the start and we finished within seconds of each other. My brother also came down (3 hour drive) to run it with me. He stayed with me the first 2 1/2 miles and then he took off at his pace.

I finished the 6.25 mile course in 1 hour 12 minutes for an average pace of 11:36 min/mile.

One of my training buddies mentioned that she was going to run in the Mason State Bank 5K on Friday May 7th, so on Monday I got on-line and signed up for that one, the Lilac Festival 10K on Mackinaw Island June 12, the CRIM 10 Miles in Flint August 28, and the Capital City River Run 1/2 marathon in Lansing September 26. I'm also going to sign up with a bunch of people at work for the Michigan Brewing Company Beer Run 5K in webberville on June 19th.

Sooo on Friday with all of the nasty weather (Thunder, Lightening, and hail earlier in the day) I wasn't sure that the Mason State Bank 5K was going to happen. I drove by the court house at 5:30 and there were people out there already, so I went home got ready and headed back up there to stand in the rain until the race started at 7pm. My training buddy met me there and we ran it together.

I finished the 3.17 mile course in 34 Minutes 20 seconds for an average pace of 10.50 min/mile.

I somehow shaved 46 seconds off per mile!!! For an evening race that I was kind of hoping would get canceled because of the weather.

I've got the running/racing bug. I've got to find one in July and maybe one in early August to do. Oh and my brother has signed up for all of the races with me. I think it is so cool that this is something that we can do together. I did tell him that from here on out he needs to run them at his pace not mine. For the Heart of a Spartan he stuck with me the first 2 1/2 at a 11/12 min/mile pace and still managed to finish with an average pace of 9.25.

Pics to come soon!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Great times and wonderful motivation! I want to try a 5k soon. I'm slow to break myself into running outside after spending the last few months working up to two miles on the treadmill. I'll be back to read about your other races. I'm sure you'll continue to inspire.
