Celebrate Cindy

Friday, May 07, 2010

I want to celebrate Cindy today. She is a shining example that once you set goals, you can accomplish anything you want. I first met Cindy when she was 15, angry, addicted (alcohol), ready to drop out of school as soon as she turned sixteen. Last evening I attended her college graduation. She is 29, has served in the Air Force including deployments to Iraq where as she described it, head down in the sand, she realized she would rather be a teacher. And now she is going to be a teacher and a terrific one. I was one of Cindy's teachers and am blessed to watch my passion move on to another generation. She moved me to tears last night when she said. "If I can affect one student that way you and Mrs. Kraus (one of my best friends and the junior high teacher that asked me to help Cindy) affected me, I will be a successful teacher. "
Please celebrate Cindy today... she didn't stay addicted, she didn't drop out of school, she didn't stay angry, she never gave up. She is a Spark!

What a wonderful story; it's like a fairy tale, with problems, but a happy ending! I'm delighted for both Cindy and for you.
