The Half-Marathon :)

Tuesday, May 04, 2010

Well, I did it! I ran the Eugene Half- Marathon on Sunday, May 2nd. I finished in 2:08:38 by my watch subtracting my two bathroom breaks...and 2:16 by the official chip time. It was pretty insane! There was 8,000 runners which was pretty intimidating for me. But I stayed focused and just kept pushing forward.

My average mile time was 9:49 which was 19 seconds faster a mile than my 11 mile run. I do think I pushed myself a bit too hard as I have been kind of a mess since then! I have been too exhausted to even think about posting this blog until today. I did great until about mile 8, when I started to feel kind of nauseous and started struggling with keeping my pace even. I think that my body was not happy with me drinking water at every station. I am used to drinking water before my run, in the middle, and at the end. So I did not handle that very well.

My hips started hurting around mile 11 but I kept telling myself only two more to go!! My awesome cheer team, my husband, mom, and two friends were a great support! I saw them 4 times, at mile 3, 7, 9, and right before the finish line!! It was pretty awesome to run into Hayward Field, which is the famous track field here in Eugene. I am proud of myself for accomplishing this however I don't think I will do it again... I really enjoy running 3-6 miles but over that, I start to lose my passion and enjoyment for running. So from now on I'll stick to 5k's and 10k's to take care of the racing bug :)

Thanks for all the support from my Spark friends and the half-marathon team!! Now its time to get back to some weight loss!

Hi, I am training for the Eugene Women's Half Marathon in September, with Anna Heintz' team at the Eugene Running Company. I really enjoyed reading your blog, I can do this too! I am going to pay close attention to the water situation since both you and Dena experienced the same thing with overwatering. Are you training for another race?

Good job on your finish!! I was right in front in you..I finished in 2:14:42. I know exactly what you were talking about when it comes to drinking water at all the water stops. My body didn't like all the water either. Great Job!! emoticon
