Being a FlyBaby and Spring Cleaning
Tuesday, April 20, 2010
Well, I started as a Flybaby a couple of years ago and never seemed to get past the little daily chores. I thought I would eventually gain control over the whole house, but the house just never seemed totally clean. Worse than that, I guess I didn't love the house enough to want to put forth more effort. I know Flylady says you don't need to "spring clean" if you follow her schedule, but I finally knew I needed to do some major cleaning.
So, for motivation, this year I planned for two dinner parties, one the week before Easter, and one on Easter. I invited people, so then I knew I had to follow through with the cleaning. I started about a month before Easter. Every day I did a task that was deep cleaning, not setting a timer, but just working hard everyday. The house was in pretty good shape by time we had company, and I felt so comfortable, just being able to concentrate on the meals, table setting, etc. during that week.
Finally, now I can follow the schedule Flylady posts for "keeping up", and it does not seem daunting at all. It is so nice when a car pulls up to be happy to invite the people inside. Best of all, I feel so much love for my home now that I want to keep it tidy, and also make improvements. That alone makes the tasks easier.
My next big motivation is that our three children and families will all be here this summer, so now I begin to tackle our upstairs. But looking forward to having them here makes that job easier to contemplate, and hopefully to carry out.
Three cheers for Flylady!
