My Gallbladder/Appendix Surgery

Sunday, April 18, 2010

What a week I've had last week April 6th, I went to the dr to get my results for my CT scan of my stomach area they said it's my appendix. My Dr said I needed to go straight to the hospital emergency room because she was afraid of my appendix bursting at anytime. So after the dr apt my husband and I came home packed my overnight bag and left for the hospital. Once I got to the hospital they did another CT scan and ultra sound done apparently my gallbladder has 50-70 gull stones in it. So after more blood tests they call the general surgeon and schedule my surgery for the next day then I'm finally admitted get to my hospital room. Mind you, I've had no food since breakfast and its almost midnight can't eat anything due to surgery the in the afternoon. Ice chips it is....yummy that's all i can have.

The next day April 7th, is my surgery I meet the surgeon who is very nice and made me feel comfortable about it. The surgery should have been done with a laser were no complications and if any issues I would have to have it done the old fashioned way with the big incision across my stomach area. So its time for the surgery say my goodbyes to my family for the hour and half procedure. Well it turns out they had to do the old fashioned surgery to remove my gallbladder and appendix. My gallbladder had gain green all over it and the surgery took almost 4hrs because they wanted to make sure all of the infection gangrene was gone. I spent a total of a 6 days in the hospital trying to recover the doctor said I'm doing great healing. So now I have this huge 8 inch incision across my stomach with staples holding it together. I've never had any surgery so all of this is new to me. Dealing with the pain is horrible in my abs but I'm a tough cookie making it through it with some pain pills. My husband has been taking care of me he's so wonderful I am a very lucky women.
So it's going to be awhile until I can work out again while I heal. I am still watching my food intake and trying to get up and walk around as much as I can. I don't want to gain any weight back. So here I am controlling what I eat and not getting off track and keep focused on my goal. Wish me luck on a quick recovery! I'm off work until may 12th or until my dr releases me.

Sorry all this has happened. Glad you are getting better. I can relate to a large incision with staples. I has 22 staples when I had a C Section with my daughter. It was difficult. I'll be praying for you. Hang in there!!

Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry about that. You know, you are very lucky not to have died with gangrene in your system!

Well, I am glad that you are on the mend. You are smart not to do too much. with that incision, if you try to lift too much or exercise too quickly, you can get a hernia and that would just mean more surgery, so please do everything your doc says.

Good for you eating right and I'm so glad you have your husband to help you out!!!
