Work Ankles for Balance

We have been getting an increase in calls about balance issues. What can I do to improve balance? What standing exercises can I do with risk of falling? Can I exercise using my walker?

While overall good fitness and good posture have lots to do with improving balance, there is one area of the body- often overlooked- that can help balance dramatically. Your ankles. Strengthen your ankles, increase their flexibility and mobility and you're on the right track.

    That is a good point - we do forget the importance of our ankles in balance. A lot of mobility challenged people have ankles that are very stiff or even frozen. They tend to leave them be - as it can be hard, even painful to move them - but its worth the effort - it really can help in balance improvement!!
