Ah, such a lovely day to run my first 5K....NOT.

Sunday, April 18, 2010

Okay. The good news is that I made it. Not only did I make it but I beat my average time.

Bad news: I worked the graveyard shift, got off at 7am only to go home, take a 15 minute "nap" and change into my running gear and be at the race location at 8:45 am. Whew. I did try to sleep a lot the day before though so that helped. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that the city was in the midst of a flash flood. It was 45 degrees outside, as well. I'm a weenie so I consider that to be freezing.

But I made it. I really made it.

Not what anyone would consider record breaking time but it broke my record.

I'm 216 pounds and considerably out of shape but I pushed. The rain was such an obstacle. The puddles were nearly impossible to avoid. And the wind was such a foe. In the end though, those hurdles made the finish line look like heaven.

I wouldn't have done my first 5k any other way. I know that my time would have been better had it not been for all of the setbacks I faced but now I have a time to beat. I have a goal.

So maybe it WAS a lovely day to run a first 5k.

Good Job! I commend you for working and then going and running a race! Wow!

I will be running my 2nd 5k on April 24th and my time to beat is 35:10...

I've had terrible problems with my shin splints (especially during the first race) and have been working on stretches and got some new inserts with arch supports.

I'm hoping to do well. Great job on completing your 5k!! It is such a wonderful experience and a great sense of accomplishment! Be proud.
