32:28 is my official chip time for my first 5K race! WOOHOO!!!! emoticon

I was a total bundle of nerves--my husband will second that! I really thought I was going to throw up about an hour before the race, but I didn't.

We got lined up at 6:15 and started to get in the zone. It was chip timed so I didn't have to worry about pushing to the front of the pack. Before I knew it, we were off! I was so scared since I've been sick all week and haven't ran since last Saturday. I still was plenty congested and wasn't able to breathe through my nose, so that made my mouth uncomfortably dry for the whole thing. I didn't focus on that, though...I just tried to listen to the music and remember that I've run FARTHER than this! I was less than thrilled when we turned the first corner about a quarter of a mile in and saw a HUGE HILL. I just kept putting one foot in front of the other. All of a sudden I was PASSING people. I couldn't believe how many people didn't even try to run the hill; they stopped and walked.

I heard another runner near me say "We're a mile in" and that was the first time I looked at my Garmin watch--it confirmed what he said. That first mile FLEW. The course was all around a college campus and really was some nice scenery.

My dad was able to make it to the finish line, but MISSED ME SOMEHOW! I was bummed and so was he that we didn't get that finish line photo. It was really cool though that we finished on the football field. TONS of people were on either side cheering all the runners on! I definitely kept a 10 minute mile pace and can't believe it! It was just an awesome all around experience. I really was hoping to finish under 35 minutes, but didn't know what to expect. When I get back home I'll post some of the post-race photos of my husband and I...he was a ROCK STAR finishing in 26 minutes!
