I've been going to yoga three times a week for the last three weeks. When I first started, I was TERRIBLE. (No, I'm not being modest with that term; I'm being rather easy on myself.) I fell over at least once a session, (sometimes with a "splat!"; later on with a more ladylike "thunk.") I couldn't come close to my toes when bending over and generally sweated and gasped as though I was running a marathon instead of merely bending my body.

Now I'm coming much closer to grasping my toes and can move my body without the copious sweating. I still look and feel a lot like a lumbering bear coming off a three-week bender when I try to get into some of the poses, but I'm getting better at it! My hamstrings are getting longer and my body is beginning to move better. I've gone from "terrible" to merely "really, really bad." Progress? Yup! I'm beginning to look forward to a few months from now when I upgrade my yogability from "really, really bad" to "not very good." Now THAT will be progress!

Now those are measurement that I feel actually fit me and my workout style! It's one of the reasons I choose to workout at home or in open spaces out of doors. That way I keep the carnage to a minimum.

I LOVE this! Congrats on coming from "terrible" to "really, really bad"! When you get past that "not very good" milestone, the sky's the limit. Way to kick perfectionism's butt! I started playing piano in September and I'm still "pretty bad". I love it, though, and it's already enriching my life, just as yoga is yours. I believe there's a yoga that employs laughter as a technique. Your hung-over lumbering bear might like that one, too.
