First Short Term Goal Met!

Friday, April 16, 2010

I am PROUD to say that I have lost 10% plus of my starting body weight. WOO HOO!! This was the first short term goal that I set for myself. My hope was to reach this goal next week at my scheduled follow-up with my Endocrinologist. I wanted to walk in her office with my head held up high because I was finally “doing my part.”

My last visit was the Monday before Christmas and three months after my first visit. My doctor said she would help get my thyroid medication adjusted enough to help me feel better as opposed to getting my numbers within normal range. All she asked was that I do my part…make time for exercise and start eating better. She indicated that the medication alone wasn’t going to help and that I needed to help myself too. The visit with her was very different from visits I have had with other doctors. She took the time to listen and understand how I was feeling and she didn’t blame everything on my weight. She also didn’t act like losing weight was an easy thing to do and we talked about small changes I could make.

Well, I felt like l not only let myself down, but I let her down when I was at my last appointment. My thyroid “numbers” were finally where I always thought they should be, but I hadn’t made any lifestyle changes and I hadn't lost any weight. She didn’t mention my weight, but she indicated that my sugar levels were too high and that I needed to change my diet if I wanted those numbers to improve. Needless to say, I am anxious for my next appointment (that’s a first) and to have my blood work done again.

On to the next goal!

Woo Hoo!!! Way to go Monica!! I knew you could do it. You have been doing a great job and staying motivated. It has been keeping me motivated too. Hopefully, now that my knee is fixed I can start a more vigorous workout. Of course, that won't happen for a couple more weeks. Keep up the good work. You can do it!! We can do it!!

How exciting! That appointment was good incentive - now how you feel about yourself is extra incentive! You've done great, and you deserve to proud.
