Advice on a "good" time in a 5k?

OK. So I've been following the Couch to 5k Plan religiously. I love it and I'll admit to at times pushing myself harder than the intended regime that the day suggests. It's just who I am--I say ok so I've been running for a minute and a half but I can totally go for 2. I'm only on week three, day two.

My employer is a sponsor for a local 5k in support of abused and neglected children. Anyway, they had two free entries to give away to employees. Of course, only my arrogant meat head co-worker jumped at the opportunity.

One week before the race and I'm pretty sure no one else is going to sign up.

So I do.

Yes, yes. I know, I'm not ready. But I know I can FINISH it...I know that I will have to walk and I'm okay with that. Point is, I can make it. While it won't be a 25-30 minute 5k....

I want to know, what's a time that you all would be okay with? I'm able to do a 13 minute mile but three of those bad boys is bound to slow me down a bit.

I was thinking about setting my time limit to nothing above 50 minutes. Is that asking too much of myself?

    Congrats on signing up for the 5k! I think that is awesome! I don't think that 50 minutes is going to be too much for you. You seem very determined to finish it so that is all you need! Once you get out there you will be so energized by all of the other people and the goal of getting to the finish line that I'm sure you will finish before that set time.

    Just remember that at the end of the race the biggest accomplishment is not the time you finished but the fact that you finished at all.
