Shedding Tears For My Dog
Thursday, April 15, 2010
Last night, I had a horrible experience, from which I learned a few things. I was taking out the trash with my son and 1 1/2 year old dog, Diamond. She usually does not come outside unleashed, since there is no fence, but last night she did. Well, she ran into the street, and was hit by a van, which did not stop. She was on the other side of my car, so I could not see her, but I heard her cries. I did not want to look, my son bent to grab her, but she came hobbling around my car straight to me. My son, then ran after the van. Several people came out of houses and businesses, to see what had happened. I thanked them for their concern, and brought her upstairs. Her leg was bent and she was bleeding. I was able to find a vet's office, that was open after hours and also close by. Luckily, Diamond's leg is not broken and she should recover, fine.
Now for what I learned, #1, she must ALWAYS be on a LEASH. #2, I have great neighbors. Also, just because my son doesn't walk her regularly, he does care for her a great deal. He couldn't understand why someone who clearly hit an animal, wouldn't stop. I purchased Diamond for my daughter, the animal lover. But I was the one who cried, all the way to the vet's office. I felt the tears coming, and for this reason, I made the trip alone. I never expected to have any emotional attachment to her, whatsoever, boy was I wrong.
Today, I am grateful that she is going to be okay, and that I discovered this terrific website, that let's me share my life experiences. Thanks for reading,

I am so happy your dog was not more seriously hurt!! It doesn't take long, or much for them to burrow into our hearts, does it!

HEY HUN, HOW ARE YOU DOING? I AM FINE, AND KEEPING GOING, A LITTLE TIRED, BUT I CAN WALK, MOVE, SO I AM BLESSED, I HAVE A FRIEND WITH MS AND SHE TRULY IS AN INSPIRATION TO ME, AS SHE CAN NOT WALK NOR USE HER LEFT ARM, BUT NOTHING STOPS HER. WHENEVER MY BODY IS WEARY, I THINK OF HER AND PUSH INTO MY MIND I CAN DO THIS, LITTLE STEPS ARE FINE.
I HAVE JUST SPOKEN TO HER AND SHE SAID WHAT I WOULD GIVE IF I COULD ONLY STAND, AND WITH THIS, I PULLED OUT MY HULA HOOP AND HOOPED AND HOOPED AND HOOPED

I'm glad that she was okay. It's hard not to get attached to animals because they show so much love and happiness. Who wouldn't be drawn to that?!

Oh Jazz, I am so sorry to hear about what happened to Diamond. You were a strong lady getting her to the vet. Glad she is ok. Now you learned something else, in a time of trouble, you've got it together. Thanks for being such a good Mama to your kiddos and Diamond.

just reading this makes me tear up. I am an animal lover, and everytime I take my Chelsea out, I fear that this will happen to her, but yes the leash is the thing no matter what. I am so happy she is going to be okay!!!

Awwww mamma! That's a hard lesson! It doesn't matter if it's a fur baby or not. Your heart belongs to them! I'm glad that she has a good family that does care about her and understood she needed a doctor (know some people who never take theirs to the vet). It's good to hear that she's going to be okay. I'm a mother of two fur babies (and no two legged ones) and I'm so happy that she is safe and on the mend!

I hope your Diamond is recovering nicely. Our dog, Peaches, is 16!!! Can you imagine. She is like part of our family and it will be a very sad day when she passes. Pets deserve respect and the person who ran over your dog was not a good person at all. I'm so sorry you had to witness that. Glad that everything turned out well and you learned a valuable lesson....That your love is there for your pet....God's beautiful creature. Have a great day, sweetie, and thanks for stopping by my blog! Come visit any time. XO MaryAnn

I'm so sorry this happened. Sounds like you are drawing strength and moving forward with good information. It really upsets me when I see dogs off leash. There are a couple yorkies who run through the alley behind our house; they are so small, it is only a matter of time.

I feel your pain - am so glad Diamond will be all right. It is so hard when our animals aare hurt because we can't explain what is happening to them and they trust us and love us so unconditionally. I have a bichon who has had a lot of medical problems but is doing well now. I hope Diamond continues to reecover.
