Making Some Changes and Gearing Up for Obstacles Ahead

Thursday, April 15, 2010

I am quickly approaching the beginning of week 12 in my journey. Twelve weeks is where I usually start to lose steam and burn out or feel good enough to think I don’t need to track or a little bite here and there are okay. It’s also a time when I usually plateau even though I am doing everything I had been doing. Well, I have been gearing up for week 12. Psyching myself up for the new challenges that I KNOW I will face.

What have I done? I started to change things up in week 9. I started taking walks outside in the evenings and on weekends and I started working on getting my bike in working order. In week 10 I went back to the gym and started taking group fitness classes. I hate doing these alone (w/o a buddy), but I did it. I took two classes last week. This week I have taken 3 classes so far. I also joined the April challenge at the gym. You join a team (mine was random) and different activities you do earn points for yourself as well as your team. You can only do a class or activity 4 times in the month to earn points for it. This forces you to try different machines or classes if you want to earn more points. I don’t want to let my team down so this will help me be accountable for getting to the gym and classes.

I have to admit that it feels good to workout with others working towards the same goals. It is also nice to change up the view from my basement with laundry piles, stored boxes and junk to a gym filled with activity and energy. The energy I am surrounded by at the gym alone has been great!

Week 12, I am ready for you!

That's so great. Very clever planning. I feel myself getting a little "comfortable" with tracking, etc...I'll need to stay vigilant. Thank you for the reminder.
