Wow..what a crazy night for running.

Wednesday, April 14, 2010

I started my night off late..didn't run until 7:15 after the air was already beginning to cool off and darkness was starting to set in. Haven't been taking my little dog on my runs lately since I've been running longer distances, but he gazed at me so expectantly, I felt guilty & decided to take him for a quick walk around the block as a pre-run warm up hoping to satisfy him. Well, in taking him back home, he stopped in his tracks & refused to go back..apparently he was just getting started too. Well, I thought, it's getting dark, I'll just have a shorter run this time and have him for good company.

So off we go, him pulling & tugging me along, and just a 1/2 mile into the run, we pick up a hitchhiker...a little terrier that decided to harass & play with my dog the ENTIRE distance. So much for my zen running experience...being yanked to & fro by the leash & almost getting tripped several times along the way. After much useless yelling to "GO HOME" (he never flinched), he proceeded to follow me home.

Then, upon getting almost home, I pass the neighborhood "crazy lady" with her vicious dogs on a 12 ft rope (I'm not exaggerating here). As her dog lunges at mine, she half-heartedly atttempts to reel in her rope. In the meantime, he gets away to attempt an attack on my dog, not the hitchhiker dog of course. I quickly scoop up my little guy as the neighbor dog bites at my backside..yes, he made contact! Yes, I'm yelling at her to "GET YOUR DOG, LADY" as she continues to slowly reel in her rope.

Then, the night continues, as my son & I drive the dog AROUND and AROUND a nearby neighborhood looking for his home since he seemed to be attempting to make mine his. Yes, we did find it and was told he gets out quite often. All I can say is WOW.
