Insanity completed, here is my story........

Friday, April 09, 2010

don't know who can relate to my story, but if I can do it others can too.
I was always underweight growing up until the birth of my first child at 22 I weighted 118 lbs (I am 5'6'') so this was too skinny for me. I started taking the depo-provera birth control shot and gained 70 lbs in one year, at the time my doctor keep on telling me "not to worry about the weight gain, it's normal and your body will adjust and drop the weight" well after one year I got off the shots and had 2 babies after. My weight shot up to 231 lbs.

This was very depressing to me, but I accepted the fact that I was over weight and can't do anything about it, I became depressed, hair start falling and dry skin... I went to my doctor who did a blood work up and discovered that the depo shots. destroyed my thyroid gland and now I was hypothyroid, more weight gain.

My weight loss journey started 3 yrs ago, after visiting, my grandmother request she wanted to take a picture with me, (I stopped taking pictures a long time before because of the weight) I could not refused. After seeing that picture I was so embarrassed because I looked older than my 76 yrs old grandma with rolls of fat on my abs. I took that picture and posted it on my refrigerator and vowed to lose that weight.
I started eating 1/2 the amount of food, bought a treadmill and walked 10 minutes a day and increased it every week, bought some taebo tapes did some cardio. I lost about 35 lbs before joining Sparkpeople. I reached a plateau and was looking online for free weight loss sites and found spark, with tools that help me to track food and learn healthy eating habits.

I kept eating clean and everytime I reach a plateau I will buy some new workout dvd and it helps to break through the plateau. Jillian Michaels and Jari Love dvds were my last before Insanity.

I was stuck at 155 lbs for about 2 months saw the Infomrecial for Insanity and start reading other people's experience with it. debating whether I should get it, eventually I decide to get Insanity, the first 2 weeks no weight loss, but I was doing Insanity and Jillian Michaels dvd because I felt the first month of Insanity workout was too short, after not seeing weight loss, I decided to just do the Insanity and no other dvd, suddenly I started losing about 2 lbs every week and did not plateau, my body started shrinking where my family tell me to stop the workout because I was getting too skinny. I kept with the workouts because I had to reach the 140 lbs mark, because that's goal I set for myself.

Now I am loosely fitting into a size 4 weight went from 155 down to 140.4 bust from 36 down to 34 waist from 30 to 27 hip 38 down 36.
I did not take before pictures because this was a personal challenge than anything else.

Sorry for the long blog.

Thank you so much for blogging about this! Congratulations on your awesome success! I gained 55 pounds on 3 shots Depo in 1996 then had 4 children!! I already had thyroid problems and now I weigh over 200 pounds. Every time I try to lose weight, I soon "fall off" then end up even heavier!! I feel like giving up, but I can't do that. I feel more hopeful after reading your blog! I may not get back to my original 120 again, but I want to wave good-bye to obesity!!!

That's awesome! Congratulations on your improvements and journey!

I'm on my 2nd week of Insanity & loving it! I've held steady at about 150 pounds and wonder if it is because I also get in other workouts occasionally, along with jogging 1 1/2 - 2 miles almost daily? I'll try doing just Insanity for a few days to a week and see if it makes a difference.

    Thanks for posting the blog!!!

    Thanks for sharing your story!

I've been struggling with the 15 kg I gained during the last pregnacy for 2 years now so I image how difficult it was for you. I'm glad I found sparkpeople, it feels much better when you know that there are other people having similar goals, struggling every day as I am.

After reading your blog I almost feel angry at your doctor. And am reminded of the frustration that I also had to deal with due to synthetic hormones. When I was younger I was on a few different birth control and they really wrecked my body too. I also used Depo for a time and also Yasmin. I did not have problems with my thyroid but instead had a lot of problems with my Adrenal glands. After the birth of my son for almost a year my reproductive hormones were in the worst imbalance you could imagine due to Depo.

And I can completely relate to the serious difficulties with losing weight. Battling those hormones (or lack of hormones) is like war. I don't know you but I am very proud that you were able to overcome such adversity and reach your goals.
