Greasy Food Makes Me Sick

Wednesday, April 07, 2010

I lit a Spark fire along with a couple of my sisters. My youngest daughter became a Sparker. Yeah! She is a young healthy normal weight college student that wants to remain that way. She has been working out with my youngest sister. I work out while the rest of the house sleeps (before 7am). I'm glad that she wants to do this. It is important that our children all know how important good nutrition and exercise are. Being healthy is truly a blessing that we shouldn't take for granted. I've been watching Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution. What a shocker for me. Some of the kids and parents seem to want to be healthy, but overall I see a lot of unhealthy attitudes. I understand that fastfood can seem like a bargain, but I don't think that it is cheaper to fry food that it is to bake or grill it. Oil is not cheap. I hope that our Sparking will help solidify the notion that being healthy is not expensive or difficult and that we can encourage more people to cook. The food that you cook is the only food that you can safely know what is in it. I can make a healthy dinner in 20 minutes or less or I can drive through a fastfood restaurant and be home in about 25 minutes. Yes I preplan for this, but it isn't a chore to feed my family well. My family feels sick if they eat greasy food. Why? Because their bodies aren't accustomed to it. Let's get used to how we should feel when we eat healthy foods.

Good morning! Even the smell of french fries at McD smells bad too me. I never thought that that would happen. emoticon

How great that your daughter is sparking with you and your sisters. Especially now that she's in College when most kids have trouble with their weight. If she can develop good habits now, she's set for life. Good for her and Kudos to you for encouraging a healthy life style.

Have you read the book, "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle?" by Barbara Kingsolver? It is about she and her family who try to eat completely off their farm (or locally) for a year.

Right now I'm at the part where she discusses how terrible it is that we've given up cooking and eating as a family. Her teenage daughter writes how much the family enjoys and savors EVERY BITE SITTING DOWN because they have anticipated eating their meal all through the preparation. I was stunned that this 18-year-old mentioned a huge tenent of Beck!

I'm telling you, it seems like everything is connected....

I have to totally agree with you about greasy food! I think I am going to enjoy a splurge and end up miserable! It may be my age, because when I was younger I could eat any old garbage! It is good in a way that our bodies give us a warning that a food is a poor choice.

I too have problems with greasy food. I have stayed away from it
for years. You also hit the nail on the head with making dinner.
It is just as easy to make a healthy meal ( maybe even easier )
then to go to a fast food joint or just throw together any old meal.

I try not to eat greasy food. My family and I eat pretty healthy. Twice in the last 2 years, I was out with friends, hungry and looking for something quick. Both times we ate greasy fast food. Each time, I had an anxiety attack! Racing heart, anxious, feeling boxed in. Kind of scary, but very telling. So I avoid it at all costs! Good for you and all you have achieved! emoticon
