Going down the stairs

Tuesday, April 06, 2010

I was writing a response to a blog, and it ended up being - well not just one of those "WOOHOO you can do it, you ROCK" responses - but a little longer.
But I felt like sharing with my sparkfriend the mental picture that have kept my sanity on my journeys loosing weight (Well - not always I must admit - but some of the times when faith wavered).
And now I thought that I wanted to share this with the rest of you as well.
Loosing weight is like going down a staircase, but in total darkness.

You go down one step at a time, there is no light - but your feet can feel the way.
Then you reach a plateau ......... now where do the staircase continue - must you turn right or left?
Will it be a narrow plateau where there is only a small space and the stairs will continue almost immediately as soon as you have made the first turn? ......... or is it one where you will have to turn and go all along the stair and turn again before the stairs will continue downwards in under the stairs you just left?

What happens if we would go down stairs that never would have a plateau and a resting point? Our muscles would end up with acid and at last our legs would be worn out - even when going down the stairs. Going up is considered hard - but going down is actually also hard.

What is important here when reaching the plateau, is to understand that the continuing stairs are there - going further downwards - you just need to give the body a little rest, respect that it NEEDS the rest - let the time go by and then continue.

What is more important is to remember that even if we are resting on the plateau for a while, this IS a successful journey - and there is NO REASON to turn around and go UP the stairs again - just because we know where THEY are in the dark!

We know how to go up - we practiced it for a long time - we are good at it.

Now it is time to go down, and never loose the focus.

I actually hit a plateau for the last month so I totally hear this blog. Only this week was I able to crack through it. Now I just gotta see if I can keep going.

Plus I've always loved pics like those, with the steps. It keeps me boggled, lol!
