Here is the Garmin Data on my ride today. The first link is part 1 and the second link is part 2.

I crashed/wrecked/fell on my bike at the end of part 1 when I was trying to get moving from a stop and was in too high a gear. I tried to get to a low gear too fast and ended up having the chain fall off! Suddenly, I have no "power" on the bike and I'm clipped in and over I go! I landed on the palm of my had, the thick pad under the thumb is very, very sore. I will have to ice it later when I finish in the yard.

Otherwise, I am feeling pretty good about the new bike - and the cycling. I went 19.22 miles, with an average speed of 14.6 mph (the goal was 15 mph) and a max speed of 23 mph.

I'm starting out early this year - longer training time should hopefully result in no injuries (if I keep myself from falling) and a better overall time. Sure, The Pelotonia isn't a race, but it's nice to finish in better time than I did last year :)

You are such a cyclist Kris! It seems to really be a passion of yours :) I hope you're healed by now. Crashing on a bike is actually a big fear of mine. We bike on the trails during the spring/summer and I'm always the slow poke down the hills...and up them too! But I get there! Your level of biking is an entire different meaning than my casual day out for a ride which is Awesome! Did you do the Pelotonia last year too? It seems familiar. Thanks for sharing your links and info in your blogs..always so interesting!

WOO HOO. Way to go for such a great cause! I plan to do the Relay for Life in June on my b-day this year and I want to get 8 miles in. I better get my rear in gear.

That is so cool! I read your rider page. It is so true. I've got at least 4 family members in my parents generation that have died from cancer. Good Luck.

I'm going to do the 100 miles to Nowhere over 7-10 days staring May 1st. I haven't ridden more than a mile since I signed up. I'm getting a little nervous! I'm sure day 1 will be fine, it's day 2-10 that I'm worried about.

Sorry you fell, but glad you were not hurt anymore than you were.

Kris, I am sorry to read about your 'badge of honor' from today's ride. Best of luck to you in your training, from someone who also is a part of the fight against cancer with my bicycle (and I am a friend of Bill's).

You're an official cyclist now! You had to fall over, at least, once while clipped in; Anne's a pro at it. emoticon

I planned to ride today, but a freak accident with some kitchen sheers has my hand wrapped in gauze.

Hope we can ride some together this summer.

I've wondered what it would be like to have shoes clipped to the pedals. My son says "You get used to it," but your fall is just what I'd be worried about. I know how often, driving a manual shift, I've forgotten to change gears at a stop . . .

I hope your bike was not hurt and your hand gets better. Sorry to hear about the Body Bug.
