Poetry and the Creative Mind Day
Thursday, April 01, 2010
Yes, April 1st is more than just April Fool's Day. Poetry and the Creative Mind Day is a legitimate but weird holiday, not made-up. I am seriously lousy at writing poetry, so I won't pain you by even attempting. But I did find some great quotes about walking. And it does take creativity to come up with these brilliant statements. All walkers reading these will know exactly what they mean!
*There is nothing like walking to get the feel of a country. A fine landscape is like a piece of music; it must be taken at the right tempo. Even a bicycle goes too fast. -Paul Scott Mowrer (I fully agree about the bike).
*In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks. -John Muir. Very true.
*All truly great thoughts are conceived by walking. -Friedrich Nietzsche
*If you are seeking creative ideas, go out walking. Angels whisper to a man when he goes for a walk. -Raymond Inmon
*I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. -Robert L. Stevenson
*A vigorous five-mile walk will do more good for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult than all the medicine and psychology in the world. -Paul Dudley White
Tracy, Brutus, Tracy's nephew (the same one I mentioned in yesterday's blog), and I went for a walk today. I could feel more blisters coming since I still could not find my go-to pair of shoes. We only went three miles but we timed ourselves. I wasn't pushing myself that hard in terms of speed, and with the blisters I was really hobbling along. We did 3 miles in 45 minutes. 15 minutes per mile is a really good speed! It makes me wonder how fast we could go if we were pushing hard, or how many miles we could sustain that speed. It was a great day.
I don't think I have been consistent enough with my diet this week to translate into results on the scale, but if we could establish a more consistent walking routine I think I would see results very quickly. Whatever the news is, I'll share it all on weigh-in Saturday. Wish me luck!
