I'm such a WIMP, but gotta start somewhere!

Monday, March 29, 2010

So, I did W1D1 yesterday, or at least I tried to... I only "ran" the first 3.5 intervals, the rest I walked through. My calves were SCREAMING, so I'm assuming I need to ease into this just a little slower than I thought. When I go out tomorrow, I'm going to do every other interval... so basically run for one min, walk for three...

I took my dog, and was a little nervous about running with her. We've never ran before, and I was afraid she'd trip me up somehow. SHE LOVED IT!!!! She kept wanting to run more long after I was spent! She had started to consider my tennies as a sign that it was time to walk, and all winter when I put them on to ride the elliptical she was sooo sad. Making it up to her now!

I'm trying to figure out how to juggle the dog, the water bottle, and the back pack while running. It doesn't work the same as walking lol. I might have to invest in some new "equipment".

Happy trails....

Hmmm... I hadn't though to get "fitted"... I have a pair of Nike running shoes, those kind with gel in the sole under the heal... It definitely felt like muscle strain, but good stretch did work it out!

Yes, I'm doing couch to 5k and W1D1 is Week 1, Day 1.

Thanks to all of you for your comments and encouragement!

I'd second the call for proper running shoes. I found myself in pain after the first couple of runs and was pushed in the direction of Asics running trainers by the head of PE at school. It made such a difference.

Just remember a journey of 100o miles starts with a single step. You've taken that first step already, just keep going. You will get there

Good for you! I started trying to run at the beginning of the year, and it was a huge challenge to just run for one minute, now I can do 20. To be honest, I still don't like it, but it is a must more efficient way to burn calories than walking! Good luck!

Are you doing the Couch25K Program? If so, fear not, it gets easier!

Also, if your calves were hurting, it sounds like shin splits. You might want to get fitted for a pair of true running shoes if you are going to continue training / running.

    Good luck!
