Learning to have willpower

Well today was another test of my willpower and I have to say I did great! I went to lunch with a good friend and we went to this bbq place that I'd never been to before. I allowed myself to have a couple of ribs, since that's why we went there, but while looking at all the "sides" to choose from, the old me would've gone for french fries or potato salad or something like that... well today, my willpower stuck! I chose my two sides, one was corn on the cob and the other was green beans! I don't think I have ever ordered healthy sides at a restaurant before (as bad as that sounds)! And, knowing that I had to allow for the extra calories in the ribs, the other sides would've added a ton more calories on top of it and I wasn't willing to do it!!

Temptation is a crazy thing! I REALLY wanted potato salad and kept looking at it on the menu. But, thanks to my friends here on SP, and my new found, strong willpower, I overcame the temptation and did the right thing! Yay me!!

Thanks to all of you who, with all the encouragement and support, are helping me help myself to find the strength and willpower to make the smart choices!!

    I am so proud of you!!! You made great choices and did not give into temptation. I learned from experience that when you go out to restaurants you can splurge a litle - but not go overboard with appetizers, bread and sides. A little change here and there makes a big difference! Kudos to you!!!!

    I think the only reason my willpower held out the first week was my stubborn refusal to eat something, because I'd have to put it in the food tracker. I just didn't want to see something like that on "paper". That's why I share my food, and fitness trackers. It forces me to be accountable for my actions. Good job on the battle for taters!

    Are we twins?!?

    I had almost the EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE today. My husband took me to a barbecue place for lunch, and I was just gazing at the menu of sides ... Before SP, I TOTALLY would have gone for some fries or potato salad.

    The place I went to had NO healthy sides - they've actually taken green beans off the menu! - so I went with a simple barbecue sandwich and walked out feeling great!

    High fives for both of us! We triumphed over the taters!!!

    emoticon ...great job! I know it's hard to do sometimes! It became a lot easier to me as time went on. I'm just used to eating a certain way now and don't (too often!) think about all the things I used to pile on my plate. I still eat really yummy things now and then, but honestly my tastes have changed and I don't like the fat laden, greasy and fried things at all like I used to!

    GOOD for you! I am a newcomer, so that, right now is my biggest anxiety . . . eating out!!! I have just been diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes in January so right now I am really working on my food journal . . . writing down EVERYTHING that passes my lips and planning menus. I know I will be able to do just what you did . . . eat healthy even when eating out, but it definitely will be a test!!! Thanks for sharing this. GOOD ON YOU!!!
