Achieving my goals!

Saturday, March 27, 2010

I updated my main SparkPage today, because I actually achieved another of the Goals that I set myself - one that I thought would take me a lot longer to achieve!

Today, I managed 15 minutes on the elliptical (arc) trainer. Now, I did cheat a little, because I did a 5-minute circuit to warm up, then did my weights and resistance training, and then did another 10-minute circuit, adding up to 15-minutes in total. But it's still 15 minutes. And it was 10 minutes in one go, which was amazing, because 5 minutes kills me. 5 minutes ABSOLUTELY kills me. But I just sort of. I ignored the time on the clock, I closed my eyes between 4:30 and 5:30 and listened to Lady GaGa, and then I just pushed through it.

And I'm pretty proud of myself for that.

Something else that I've noticed recently is that I seem to be annoyed by how slowly I'm going on the treadmill - 4km/h for someone who still weighs more than 400lbs isn't slow, I keep telling myself! - and that I'm also amused, because when I started in Fairhill gym, I was going at 3km/h and could barely keep up.

So I must be doing pretty well, really.

I also got to put my new trainers on today, which means, yay, that my heels have healed! I think I'm going to put the shoes that wounded me either in the bin or up on eBay - they only cost me £3, so it's not a huge loss either way - or see how comfortable they are with socks.

I'm just very, very glad they're finally healed, because it means no more pain when I stretch my legs in specific directions, no more blood and no more cracking, and best of all: I can wear my new trainers!

And yes, that's the best part of all, because I paid good money for them, and now I can actually get some use out of them. :)

In other other news, my little plant sproutlings are coming along pretty well. Courgettes are looking best, pretty strong, and the pumpkins, although planted last, are looking pretty good, too! Once I get them out in pots next month, I'll post a couple of photos to let y'all see how they're doing.

Me, however, I'm doing pretty well. Having lamb and butternut squash for dinner and looking forward to it, so I'll talk later! Hope everybody's enjoying their weekend!

Don't worry about your treadmill speeds. I can walk better and faster off of the treadmill. I noticed that no matter what speed that the tredmill is at, I feel like I am going to fall on my face, perhaps it is the convyor belt? But congrats on doing the elliptical! I love the elliptical myself! It was always my favorite of the machines, but you survived 15 mins on it, who cares if it was 15 mins in a row, just work up to it... you'll get there!

I can't do the elliptical at all, as it hurts my knees. I also hate the treadmill, although I used to do it, before I had an accident and hurt myself on it (I have dodgy feet and one of them gave way, so I fell and almost got caught in the belt - scary!). I prefer walking outdoors and I've had to work my way up to 2.9mph speed. When I started I was much heavier than I am now and, therefore, slower and it took time to build up my speed. Be patient with yourself. As you continue to lose weight you'll find you are able to speed up and/or go for longer on the machines before you have to stop. Don't try to run before you can walk!

It takes me 20 minutes to walk 1 km. That's 3km/hr. So I think 4km/hr is pretty good!
