Tight calves

I went for my usual walk while my daughter was a preschool today, but for some reason my calf muscles kept tightening up while I was walking. Usually for about the first 20 minutes or so they tend to be a bit sore & tight (nothing major, just have to work through it) and then they usually loosen & feel great even if I walk for over 2 hours. Today, they never did really loosen up.

I cut the walk short (I also have a bunch of stuff I am trying to get down before tomorrow, so I need the extra time) partly due to the fact my legs just kept tightening on me. I managed to get in 75 minutes, but was thinking of doing more when I started out.

Maybe my body is letting me know its not ready to do 2 hours + walking 2 days in a row yet. I know with my schedule tomorrow there is a good chance I won't get any walking in, but I'm hoping to squeeze in another hour if possible. Just have to see what tomorrow brings.

    I can relate. I've had to slow down or leave a walk due to pain. I have started taking ibuprophen before a long walk now - sometimes arthritis-strength Tylenol - but I have a doctor who has recommended it. I can't do really strenuous but need to do some for mobility. Now, with moving, I just take a few things at a time so I'm glad I have the whole month to move.

    I think you should listen to your body from time to time. Like the one doctor said - "No one else can feel your pain." And each person has different tolerances. You can't make yourself worse and only you can tell if that's a risk with the pain you are feeling. I have a different "burn" from exercise and arthritis. I can tell but I can't really explain it to anyone else.

    stretching and warming up usually help me when doing walks. Also maybe starting out in smaller intervals might be better and you can work up to 2 hours daily. It's better to start small then to burn out. Keep up the great work you are doing wonderful!

    When that happens to me its because I didn't stretch enough and i over did it I just take things easy and do a wall stretch which I LOVE for my calves!
