OPPOSITE of starvation mode

OK, so we hear enough on SP that we have to meet a certain calorie intake, or our bodies go into "starvation mode" and conserve every calorie, and there's no way in he** we're dropping any more weight.
Well, that got me to thinking - why is there NO way to do the opposite, i.e. go into "bountiful" mode, where *the* body is so wise as to know that there's plenty of calories to come, no need to conserve, just waste, waste, waste as many as needed during simple tasks such as sleeping, reading, TV watching? And even MORE during such strenuous activities as house cleaning and doing errands?
Oh why, why, why can't it be so?!?!?
