Holy cow! Can it be just a mere week away from Spring? It was feeling pretty Spring-like in these parts today with temps in the low 60s. If only it could be like this all summer, I would be in heaven!
Luckily, today was a long run. It was great to worry about being too warm for once, rather than worrying about frostbite. I did 11 miles. It was rough. But, that's my own fault, as I have been a little too lax on my training. Work has been kicking my butt, and that makes it harder to keep energy up for running. Anyhow, the first 7 miles were pretty smooth. I had to take an extra walk break in mile seven, there was a pesky hill that was ill-timed. I had to really push myself after mile 8, more so as each of those last three miles progressed. However, I made it to 11. I am feeling better about my half now. I was worried, but with five weeks to go, I think I will be okay. I have made my peace with the fact that this is practically like first-timing it and I probably won't have a personal best. However, I want that bling!!
In exciting motivation news, I got newsletters in my e-mail from both the HM I am running and the marathon I have in October. I was excited to note that there will be a preview run of the HM course on April 3. They aren't closing streets, so it will be all sidewalks and trails, but I am excited for a chance to actually run the course ahead of time! It will be a great training opportunity, and a chance to alleviate any fears I have about getting lost on the course! I was already pretty stoked after that e-mail, when I opened the marathon newsletter. It was all pretty mundane, until I got to the bottom. Jeff Galloway will be doing a clinic with some specialists from the Mayo clinic here on April 10th!!! There will be seminars on training and dealing with injuries, a free gait analysis, and the opportunity to meet Jeff Galloway! This is beyond cool for the fangirl in me. If it weren't for his methods, I would not have kept up with running, much less distance running. Talk about excellent motivation!
My goals for the rest of this month are to hit all of my runs, and to hit all my days of cross-training. I am hoping to make it in the 12+ club at our gym for working out at least twelve times at the gym this month. Also, I am working on cleaning up my food. I made a big batch of Chili to eat for lunches this week. Delicious, and clean. I also have smoothie fixins for breakfast, and fruit and pistachios for snacks. Dinners will be a little more tricky, but I should be able to work that. So, here's to finishing March like a lion (ess)!!!
