I officially left the Gym.

I am no longer going to a gym. I didn't have a bad experience or anything. I just found that I do my best work at home. I have a gym in my building where I work and I was going twice a week then it went to not at all since I started doing my running at home, working out with leslie and doing my walk run in the park or at the track. I find that I like the outdoors better then being cooped up in a sweaty hot gym. Then everytime I wanted to go to the gym at lunch time I could never find an empty treadmill and If I went after work I had to rush because I have a long ride home. I officially moved out and I don't think I would waste money on going to the gym again because sometimes you find yourself signing up for the gym all gung ho and then you stop even going as much. I have so much stuff at home where I can now open my own gym LOL. I don't have a treadmill but I do have weights from 8 to 250 lbs, bands, excercise ball, the WII, DVDs, Fit TV, the track and the regular old pavement outside and of course MY SPARKFRIENDS! I know this is not for everyone but I just decided this was something I think is best for me. No matter how you do it it can still be done.

    I'm glad you found what works best for you. I have found that doing cardio at the gym really bums be out, so I don't :). Keep up the good work!

    Good choice. Although I've never belonged to a gym, I've visited several and I prefer exercising outside. The South Bay Beach Cities Spark Team meet three times week and workout together. We have a very active group and I'm really thankful for that. You don't have to exercise alone. My favorite workout is at the beach on Saturday mornings. It's beautiful.

    I'm beginning to be believe I made the same mistake with the Gym. I don't want to cancel prematurely. The fees are as high as making the monthly installments. So I use it for the variety and the pool. Its a Recreation Center so it has other things to offer the family. I have a Sparkfriend and neighbor I exercise with; we have a standing appointment Monday and Thurs nights we do a DVD. She has a collection and so do I. Its our "Girl" time. Because we have standing appointment, the family respects it too. Saturday and Sunday DH and I hike, bike or take 5 mile walks at the local parks. Tuesday and Friday my daughter has Swim Team practice and I do Yoga at home. That leaves Wednesday, I normally pamper myself. Long luxurious baths (Lush bath bomb included) with my candles and soft music. No Intruders Allowed. The kids know better than to try that. LOL. So there's hardly time for the Gym. I love the treadmill, so that what I normally do when I go. The couch to 5K emoticon

    It was going to a gym that actually got me liking fitness. I actually like the treadmill and the variety of weight machines. But since I started running, I find that I enjoy running outside much more than staying in one place staring at a spot on the wall. I am looking forward to spring, longer days, warmer weather, and dry roads.

    I have to agree with you. I have a treadmill, Stationary bike a stair stepper, weights, DVDs and when the weather is better I have the great outdoors that our good Lord gave us. I am thinking about getting a Cardio machine from the thrift store, but not sure where I would put it. I am running out of room. My DH said I need to stop buying exercise equipment.

    I also think what they charge for a membership is kind of expensive.

    I agree, I have an elliptical, lots of DVD's, weights and other stuff. I wake up exercise first thing in the morning in my P.J.'s. You can't do that at the gym.

    I'm so with you here! I had a gym membership last year and went faithfully for aboput 9 months. Then I was like, I'm wasting money and cancelled my membership. I prefer working out at home, though I am a rare one that misses the treadmill. When the weather is nice, I like to walk outdoors, but it is in the fall/winter when I miss being able to throw a walk into my workout.

    I totally agree! I have DVDs, equipment and a really good pair of walking shoes. I love being outdoors and now that it's getting nice again - it's so much more invigorating to walk outside.

    I agree with you. I have done the gym thing, but I have tons of equipment at home like you so with the inspiration of Sparkfiends we can workout at home. Thanks for sharing.

    I have to agree with you Monique. I had a gym membership and I went faithfully for about 6 months, but I just think about getting on a treadmill and I gag! I have created my own variety of workout at home and outdoors when the temps permit.
    Some swear by a gym membership and there's nothing wrong with that. We each have to find what works best for us, and you and I know that the gym isn't the place where we can accomplish what we need to.

    I completely understand your giving up the gym. I work out at home or outdoors, too. I would never get my rear to the gym at 6:30am (the only time I have to work out) but I can get it to the living room. Keep up the great work.
