THE GIANTS KEEP COMING

Thursday, March 11, 2010

I was thrilled this winter when my mom gave me a emoticon that she had and was not using. It was so very convenient to be able to do my cardio exercises right in the warmth of my own home. When I started out I hated the thing! I couldn't do but about...5 minutes...without being emoticon totally. I was determined not to let this piece of equipment get the best of me!!! Last week I had got up to 45 minutes on the emoticon and I was so emoticon I could emoticon!!! That was emoticon for a emoticon like me.

Things were going well. Then all of a sudden, one night last week, my husband noticed something. I looked at my left knee and I saw something strange. In the bend of my knee was something that looked like an emoticon. It just wasn't that same color!

Cancer runs bad in my family along with about everything else that I can think of!!! I felt it was worth checking out. Needless to say, I was in the doctors office first thing Monday morning. He explained, "What I have is called a Baker's Cyst which is a pouch of joint fluid that collects behind the bend of the knee. Because of its location, this cyst may cause the knee joint to feel swollen or tight. In most people, Baker's Cysts are linked to arthritis or knee injury." He said, "Now, if this doesn't get any better in two weeks you'll need to see an Orthopedic doctor so he can take a needle and drain the fluid out an then give you a shot of steroid in the knee also." I only have one problem with that" I DO NOT LIKE NEEDLES!" My sister is the nurse in the family she just "LOVES THEM." I-well-I-missed that calling!!!

The doctor said it would be alright to exercise on my emoticon. He said "Sure it won't hurt." He Lied! I got back on and it and I felt like my knee cap was going to pop-out-of-joint! Why is it when you are on a streak and think you are doing well the " emoticon" just has to show up and try his best to make you give up and quit altogether!!! One of my "NEW GOALS" was to ride that emoticon until I was riding at least an hour! Needless to say, that was just not going to happen because I also came down with this virus that kept me in another room of the house other than the one the emoticon was in for about 2 days!!!

Yesterday, I started feeling much better. The knee looks not so much like an emoticon. I thought long and hard about what to do about my cardio. I didn't want to give up. Then I remembered all the articles I have read on SP about changing up your exercise plan to make it better. It was like a emoticon went off in my head! I decided to go back to the gym and try my water aerobic class again. The weather was much warmer and I really enjoyed my class. I swam for about an hour and I could not tell that it hurt my knee at all!!! As for the rest of my body it ached all over. So I guess it was emoticon for a change!

I guess what I am trying to say is the " emoticon" will always be there trying to make us
give up. Just tell him like this "WATER AEROBIC GRANDMOTHER " did
"GO JUMP IN A POOL!" emoticon

April, you are doing great to overcome the giants that keep sneaking up. emoticon determination, you will succeed emoticon . Glad your knee is improving & you are able to exercise.

BTW --I'm with you on needles -- I used to pass out at the sight of needles, literally! But since becoming diabetic & having to test my sugar regulary I'm getting better at handling pricks or needles.

Have a wonderful weekend my friend.

What a super blog! Congrats on putting into practice what you've learned on SP. I, have learned the same lesson and love it! I bike, walk, run, do water aerobics, pilates, yoga, dvd's and strength train. It is emoticon emoticon .
Glad to hear that your growth isn't cancer or something else serious! Sure, it's a big inconvenience, but you're handling it very well! All the best to you, emoticon
