Saturday March 6th.
Goal: 13.1 miles (a HALFIE!)
Accomplishment: 13.60 miles.
Weather: in the mid twenties, no wind to speak of but oh so clear!
Up around 6 out by 715am.
Two pieces whole wheat toast, 2 egg whites and an egg. Little bit of jam.
Clothes: New running socks! Very wicky. "New" running shoes, they are already turning grey. Light wicking shirt and brown fleece. UnderArmor tights and wicking pants. The tights would cause some concern later. Full head cover that soon became a scarf.
Tissues:8 and that was enough
I did get a bit warm with about 1.5 miles left, but tied the jacket around my waist and was fine.
Hard candies and half a PB&J. I wanted to try and eat a sandwich while running HEHE.
I started off slow... going in the wrong direction. But about faced and headed the right way. The first hour of so I was going pretty slow 67% of my MHR (I like to be in the 68-85%). But after my first 4 miles my legs wanted to go faster than my body. This was a great feeling but mostly lead to me tripping and leaning forward a lot. Eventually my legs and my body found a good balance and I was off at about 71% of my MHR. That was a great feeling. Over all the run was good. I did manage to eat my cut up sandwich. It did make my finger sticky :(.
The sun was shining and it felt soo good. When I was in the shadows I had to put my gloves on, in the sun I had to take them off :). I actually felt "sun powered." All of my long runs have been overcast most of the time. In the sun I felt hmm powerful I guess it would be. It was great! There was also no snow on the ground so I could have any stride I wanted to!
Only one issue really came up, with about 1.5 hour left I kinda needed to pee. The jogging just made it worse. My DH called me at mile 13.04 (how did he know?) to give me a "whoo hoo you can do it" I warned him that I was going to B-line to the bathroom upon returning. Then I took off at what I consider a "sprint." Instead of walking the last .5 I ran it. I don't run very often. I really huff and puff. Breath goes in as two stages and out as one, I sound like I am going to pass out (think 70 year old smoker on oxygen sound), but I felt fine. AND I made it to the bathroom! This is when you really notice how tight slightly damp tights can be.... I then went back outside and re-entered so my DH would give me my congrats and welcome. I felt fantastic!
Then post work out stretch and shower. I really wasn't as hungry as usual afterward.
I did get a minor inner thigh cramp that night (not uncommon) but no other muscle pain.
DH gave me a great leg rub that night. Ahh so nice.
