Bike tires and Thai food
Friday, March 05, 2010
Here's how it went down last night.
(Bad thought): I should go get some spicy Thai food, full of cream, to sit in my belly like a lead ball.
(Good thought): Yeah but I should ride my bike up there. It's almost 40 degrees out, practically spring! And then I'll get my 30 minutes of cardio in for ZOZO's challenge.
So, I inflate my tires, and put new batteries in my bike lights, bundle up, and go.
(Bad thought): There's a Thai place only 1 mile up the road. True, it's not as good as the one on the west side, but just go to that one, then bring it home and veg.
(Good thought): No, just keep going. The 'good' Thai place is only 6 miles up the road. That won't take long. It's almost closing time, but I can hustle and make it.
I get about 3 miles up the road. Suddenly, I'm starting to feel each bump on my back wheel. Oh no. I think I have a flat. I DO have a flat. Dang.
I rode over 1000 miles on my old bike and never got a flat. I even carried spare tubes and a repair kit, and a hand pump, every ride, and never got a flat.
Now I have a flat. But I never put together a repair kit for this new bike. Jeez. Now I gotta walk home. Even if I DID have a tube, my hands are freezing. I'd probably just walk it home anyway instead of fumbling around trying to repair it.
(Bad thought): You'll be passing the Thai place on your way back...
(Good thought)): Yeah, but it'll be closed by the time I get to it. I guess I'll eat a salad tonight after all.
So, I ate some salad, and got at least 30 minutes of cardio in.
Thanks for all of the well-wishes yesterday, peeps!
