My "Trouble Goal" (Well, one of them!)

Thursday, March 04, 2010

In an action step I read today, it encouraged the reader to blog about one goal of healthy living that is consistently harder to meet than others. For me, the first thing that comes to mind is a basic of weight loss. I mean, we're talking kindergarden level healthy living.

I can't seem to drink enough water. I do fine for a few days, but I always seem to just stop trying. I feel thirsty, but for some reason I resist drinking water. It's especially important because I'm still nursing my almost 1 year old son. I NEED the hydration, I KNOW I need it, and still I don't do it. Dumb, right?

Anyway, so today I'll try again. And maybe by writing about it, I'll have the motivation to make it a lasting habit this time.

Stef what is it that you are doing different on the days you do drink water and the days you don't?
Maybe trck what is going on and try to stabilize what is working for you so that the days are more consistent.

Water has always been a problem area for me. I hated the taste of water, and still don't really care for it, but I am doing great drinking it. I find water bottles are very handy. I take them everywhere I go. I also try to drink a glass or two of water before I drink anything else; which seems to help. When I am thirsty, I force myself to drink water first. If that doesn't quench the thirst, I will have some juice or milk. I have totally quit drinking pop, which helped me drink more water. The only caffeine I drink is coffee and I have even cut back on that. Drinking water is a learned habit I think. We have to constantly do it. Set small goals...today I am going to drink 2 glasses of water every day this week...then increase. I found that to be really helpful. Now I am drinking 8-9 glasses a day and don't even realize it! Hope that helps!

I had that issue and expecially when nursing... whoa.... What I did to combat it ( I DO NOT LIKE FREEZING COLD WATER BUT CAN CHUG IT EASILY WHEN SLIGHTLY CHILLED) is I would fill a water bottle that I really liked and made it easy to chug and leave it right by the chair that I nursed my son at wtih a few ice cubes in it. Or, when I left the house, I would put a bottle with some ice in my baby bag. Whenever I sat down to nurse, i remembered to drink my water and it was OH SO REFRESHING!

Maybe that will help. Let me know if it does.
