Patience is a virtue.

Tuesday, March 02, 2010

I've joined a challenge that requires us to make one blog or journal entry a day so here I am. I've had the opportunity this past month to learn how true it is that patience is a virtue. I'm not an impatient person, but dealing with Bell's palsy, which takes a looooooong time to leave the body, has taught me that patience has to be nurtured and coddled and developed over time. I made the mistake of trying to jump back in to my normal life the second I started to feel better and, as a result, I had a setback that is still affecting me. When my body tells me to rest and take it easy, I have to listen. And I have to get better at listening because I thought my body was saying "okay, I'm a bit better; jump back in!" But that was my mind talking. My body was apparently saying "I feel a bit better. Let's work on this together, gradually...." We read an interesting story by Victor Pelevin yesterday called "The Ontology of Childhood" that discussed this same split between the mind and the body, and once again I realized how much I listen to my mind and how often I ignore what the body is saying. I'm not sure I even know how to listen to my senses properly anymore. But it's not too late to relearn that, and I'm going to start today! Thanks, SparkPeople for the new challenge!

This has really given me something to think about.
Maybe I really did need that day of Mario afterall. Maybe my body was telling me that and my mind listened.

I do feel better and more motivated today.

    Thanks for the blog.

    Good luck on this goal.

WOW! That was a great blog, we can all learn something from that! I am learning the same lesson, but I am learning when my body is saying, I am satisfied.... STOP EATING GIRL!! lol

Listening to your body is good. I like that blog challenge! I will be able to see how things are going in your neck of the woods.

    I don't need a blog challenge - I probably need a "please don't blog anymore today" challenge!

As for patience, that is a tough one for most people.

I know you will get there. I am sorry you have to go slower than you want to and wait longer than you hoped, but hey, the world isn't going anywhere so you have plenty of time to do this right!
