The joys of business travel..

Tuesday, March 02, 2010

Like many of you I spend a considerable amount of time on the road away from home. Staying in hotels as often as I do can also bring with it some interesting challenges to my fitness goals. However, I am thankful that so many hotels have begun to see the need of incorparting fitness centers on their properties. I am not sure how faithful I would be to my exercise program if it were not for these wonderful conveniences.

So how do you stay focused upon the goal when you are away from home? I was actually able to get my run in this morning thanks to the hotel's fitness center. The wise soul that began to encourage hotels to do this is a hero in my estimation.

Hope you're having an amazing day.

I have a tough time with business travel, because it's really hard to eat well away from home. Exercise isn't a problem for me. I like to run in the mornings, so I get it out of the way. Plus, I get a chance to see the city.

Normally if I am not doing housework which consists of sweeping and mopping and a lot of bending I am out walking in the neighborhood. I just wished that it would hurry up and get warmer so I can do more things outside.

I am glad you are able to take advantage of the fitness centers in the hotels that you are staying in. That is a great help.

For me, I don't get in the 'structured' fitness but end up spending my time running (as in errands) here and there, extra housework after being gone all week, etc. I believe what I don't get in the exercise routine I get in the extra 'chores' done in and out of the house.

    Dude! I'm living your nightmare!

I LOVE to walk in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, that's not always an option depending on the character of said neighborhood. If not, there's the stairs in the hotel or even just around the hallways. (Being a man, you might not want to do that. You might look more suspicious that a little old lady does!)

Now that I'm a sparkperson, I use the 10-30min videos on my laptop. Most can be done without equipment in your room. I usually pull the bedspread down to the floor to act as a mat (although, I doubt the bedspread is any cleaner than the floor, ha!) You might consider a jump rope. Easy to pack, not very heavy.

Many people recommend taking the bands for strength training, although I don't usually do that. I use my laptop or water bottles in the room for weights if needed.

Finally, I try NEVER to have room service. I find I'll eat less if there are prying eyes around! I try to pretend that I'll have to explain all my food choices to the judgmental snoops in the room and I choose better :)

I will check back to see what other sparkers are adding that I'm not thinking of!
Good luck to you. . .

I would be happy if my hubby stayed focused on our marriage when on the road. : (
