Effort vs. Results

Thursday, February 25, 2010

To anyone out there who has a chance to read this, I would really love your feedback!

I've been working on this weight loss thing for a while now, maybe 30yrs! Only in the last year have I really put serious effort into it though. I lost almost 50lbs last year and then hit a plateau. I was journaling every bite, exercising regularly watching my nutrient intake etc. etc.

I was exercising 4-5 days a week
Calories between 1200-1500
And I hit a plateau that lasted over a month... then I lost it. I lost control.

It was just so discouraging to work so hard and stop getting results. I searched the internet, I bought books and was fanatical about logging every morsel that went in my mouth and my effort quit producing results!

I was focused on the destination, the numbers on the scale - ONEDERLAND!
I was twelve pounds away and stuck! It was maddening.

This time my approach is going to be focused more on the effort, less on the results. Yes, of course I want to lose weight, but I can't control the scale... I can ONLY control my behavior.

The journey not the destination.
The effort not the results!

They say not get bogged down with the number. There are many ways to measure success. Check your measurements maybe they are a truer indication. emoticon

I think you're entirely right about the journey versus the destination. I don't have any words of wisdom about hitting a plateau for a long time, but want to encourage you to enjoy the journey and net let the scale rule your mood. We're all here for you.

Great attitude Laskag. I agree wholeheartedly that it should be about the journey and effort and not the destination and results. Personally I want to lost a bit more weight too, but the things I've learned about food and fitness during the time I've been keeping track of my food and exercise has helped me learn how to live a healthier lifestyle. I know that I will lose whatever weight I want to, and you can too. If we're eating right and exercising, we should get to the weight we want to be. More importantly than that though, we'll have the knowledge and tools to live a healthy lifestyle. The numbers will come along too, if we decide that we want them to : )
