Day 17 - End Overeating

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

I had an "aha" moment this morning. I've only got 14.5 pounds to lose, and I've got to get serious about working the WHOLE Beck book if I'm going to get there. The closer I get to my goal, the more important it is that I tighten up my habits.

So I was reading day 17-20 this morning and it blew me away. Wow, I'm not sure I ever even GOT this far in the book before! This is exactly where I am stuck!

Like many baby boomers, I grew up urged to eat everything on my plate because of all those "starving children in China." In Catholic school we collected nickels to buy foreign "pagan babies." (Anyone remember that?)

I absolutely have issues throwing away food AND not eating everything on my plate. I OFTEN, maybe even regularly eat more than I want/need so I don't have to throw it out, because it's there, or I've put something on my plate that looked better than it is.

This week I am going to work at (1) not eating crappy food automatically so it isn't "wasted" and (2) working Day 17 -- putting more than my allotment of food on my plate and then leaving the extra.

Travelgrrl emoticon emoticon emoticon when I don't know if I'm going to like something unmatter how good it looks I take very little I figure I can always go back and get more if I like it.
I know you can do this because it is something you really want for yourself ... stay focused and keep moving forward we all have slip ups now and then ,that is part of learning .. emoticon emoticon

We weren't Catholic -- but my mum used to say, "Better it goes to waste then to my waist!"

BLW, good for your husband! That's crazy talk to my way of (current thinking!) But I'm definitely going to try.

Tonight we had big there wasn't anything to leave on my plate. emoticon I know, I know....this apparently is going to be a LOT HARDER than I thought.

Oh well, I'll get three more chances tomorrow! emoticon

Or, we could go one step further and make a rule to ALWAYS leave something on the plate. Even 2 bites. It would FORCE us to think about and then do it.

My husband often will leave a couple of bites and I ask, "why don't you just eat it?" And he says, "because I'm full and I don't want it." emoticon

I will start following his example. (In this one area only emoticon )

I have sort of the same problem, so if something is a large portion, or maybe larger than I am going to eat in one sitting, I portion it out ahead of time and wrap up the rest for later right away. The hubby and I have been very focused on consuming leftovers these days. We used to waste So.Much.Food back when we were both making big money. No more!

Right on - what doesn't go to waste goes to waist!!

It is hard but if anyone can do it you can. Oh and guess what - others have done it so now you have NO EXCUSES!! After all if it was easy Sparkland wouldn't have to exist.

Sounds like we all had the same mother!! I remember her saying "there's a poor family down the street and they'd fight for that scrap of meat you're not eating!!"

    Fortunately we know better now.

I think we had the same "mother" around. That is an extremely hard habit to break.

I agree. This is hard. I found it very hard. That means it's time to start getting excited about how much progress this assignment will bring you! My unvarying experience with Beck has been that the toughest tasks, the ones I felt most resistance about, have been the ones with the most profound results.

I hear you ! I did the leave something on my plate for a week or two and the voices in my head said "What are you doing????" At the end it was not as bad. One thing I did learn is that I need the input of quality food.

Second is I do not have to finish everything... I can save some for later, I do not have to devour all now.

You will do great... because you are TG and you can do anything you really want to.

    Keep Sparking!
