Back pain... returning...

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Okay, forget what I said the other day. It's been almost a week since I stopped taking the tablets for my sciatica, and I can barely stand up straight again.

The lucky thing is: I had an appointment booked for Thursday (two days hence) to talk to my doctor about coming off of Xenical, so I can also talk to him about my continued back pain, too.

I'm seriously tempted to ask him about going on disability - it'll mean I won't have to hobble down to the job centre every two weeks or whenever-they-want-me-in and climbing all those stairs (there are 44 stairs and no lift - what does a person in a wheelchair do?!) and it'll mean that I'll be able to take time to actually try and heal. Between the swimming and the gym, I'm sure something will help, but at the same time, I can't exactly go on a treadmill if I can't stand up properly, can I?

So I'll see what he says come Thursday. Fingers crossed he gives me another course of medication that'll stop my back twingeing and hurting, and I might be able to stand up straight for the first time in a week or so.

In good news, I cleared out my underwear drawer yesterday, and threw out all my BIIIIIIIG knickers, which were too big for me now! And today, some of my winning from eBay came in the post, which means I have two new t-shirts, and I don't have to live in camisoles anymore!

(I had a thing where I bought a TON of camisoles last summer - probably about 20 or so - and I've been living in them since, but I haven't been able to find any t-shirts that I've liked in Evans, so I checked on eBay, and found two from an OLD season of Evans clothes, and won them, and they look great! And they have sleeves!)

Anyway, I guess I'd better go and attempt to stand up in the shower long enough to wash my hair.

Wish me luck!

I haven't read all the blogs - but have you tried physio? I had an issue some years back with my sciatic nerve - caused by a car accident.

Physio really helped me, as wel as gave me some specific ongoing excercises to do - I still do them to this as I can do them sitting at my desk at work

I hope your doctor is helpful - sciatica is very painful - and you never know what causes it to flair. I hope you feel better soon. And congratulations on being able to get rid of some clothes that are too big!

Your back problems are going on too long and I'm glad you are continuing to seek help. Hopefully when we finally get some spring weather you will have some outside help too. Keep on with the posting and trying. You have a large fan club, of which I am a member.

Sounds painful. Hope that you get the disability so that you can heal as you say. Is there nothing that a local reflexologist can do for your sciatica? I do reflexology and I treat my moms sciatica nerve ending (on the butt area) every single day. It is the difference between her hobbling around and walking up straight able bodied and she's 75. I also treat her calf nerve ending. I recommend you see a reflexologist or a nerve doctor if it is possible.
Otherwise, I hope you find something that works.
