Ok, the entry is about yogurt. I read alot of health articles and such on a daily basis. Recently I've been reading alot about yogurt. A very main staple in my families diet. I am shocked about what I have discovered!!

This is probably not going to come as a surprise to you, but just in case you haven't checked here goes.....

Several months ago I read about how much sugar is in fruit flavored yogurt. My kids love fruit flavored yogurt. So I started buying vanilla instead and adding my own fruit. That was not that big of a shock to me.

I recently read that plain organic is best, so on my last trip to the store (My small town does not regularly carry Greek yogurt) I thought I'd check it out, here is what I discovered. This is a one cup serving size.

GV Brand Low-Fat Vanilla / Stny.Field Organic Low Fat Plain
Calories - 210 / 120
Fat - 1.5 / 2
Potassium- 320 / 510
Carbs - 41 / 15
Sugars - 35 / 14
Protein - 7 / 1 0

Note: That is vanilla yogurt, not fruit yogurt! I can only imagine!!

Look at the calories, carbs and sugars!! Wow!! I can add my own darn vanilla!! That is crazy!!

everything has so much hidden sugar. everyone talks about hidden fat but they rarely mention sugar. whenever they take the fat out of stuff, they have to make it taste good so they add more sugar. most things low fat have an extremely high carb count. it sucks!!!!

Good blog! Sweetened yogurts make my blood sugar go crazy and it's pretty obvious why.

Yeah, it is surprising what goes up when THEY add things to yogurt. You put fruit in and you get fiber, they put fruit in and it is still no fiber.

I've gotten my hubby to like plain yogurt at home. When he's out of town he will buy the flavored ones just because they are small and fit in his lunch/refrigerator.

    Keep up the healthy reading!!
