Fat Tuesday

Tomorrow is Fat Tuesday! Although we are not Catholics, every year my husband gives up something for Lent. Usually he goes crazy on whatever it is the weekend and few days up through Fat Tuesday. Sometimes its booze, chocolate, TV etc. Last year we tried to give up swearing and put money in a jar everytime we did. We ended up with about 40bucks...thats pretty bad. Sam said it's the hardest thing he has ever tried to give up. Well, he has been sick with migraines for the past 4 days and was unable to have his pre-lent blowout.
I've been looking on the interweb for recipes for a "king Cake". It's a sweet bread cake and you hide a tiny doll in it before you cook it and whoever gets the "king" is supposed to be lucky I guess. Sounds like fun! I'll post tomorrow and tell what Sam has decided to give up......
should be interesting.

WoW, I am really thankful as I had not thought what to give up for Lent.
I am a Catholic & I need to give up some of my bad habits - I've got a few I know I should lose. I'll think about it - it should be as realistic as possible as it's a long time.
But in the end you feel really happy!!!!
    Thanks indeed!!! emoticon emoticon

Hi! I am from the new orleans area too. Yes lent is a big thing and everyone (even non-catholics) give something up. I how ever am not giving something up, but developing good habits to help my health. That will in turn help my family, and friends. When ever i "gave something up" i usually failed. This time i dont want to fail. Hopefully I will look at this lent season not as a time of sacrifice but a time to better myself so that I can take care of others, live a longer life, and make myself a positive inspiration for others and not just my typical lack of disipline self. I want to be an inspiration. Hopefully I can live up to that. I went to a local weight loss center and realized that every other year since 2006 I have gone there and lasted only 1 month, losing between 10-15 pounds. Well that was embarrising expecially since I gained 14 pounds since my 2008 ending date. I cant keep doing this. Good luck with your goals. I will be a motivation if you need one. Just let me know

Hmmm, giving something up sounds like a plan Beercandy. I'm not catholic but tomorrow seems like a good a day as any. Don't think I can afford to give up swearing, maybe brownies, it would be a such a loss though.
