10 Mile jog Long run #4...5.

Saturday, February 13, 2010

So last week my long run was cut short due to weather issues. I made it about 4.5 of my 8 miles. But this week I made it the full 10! My first 10 EVER!

Weather/Conditions:
Cold. 10 minutes past sunrise. 16 degrees, but no wind chill, except for the breeze my crazy speed was making! Sunny. There was still a lot of snow on the ground. Knee hight if left alone, higher if the plows piled it up.

Bfast:
Started with my usual 3 egg whites and serving of bulgur (changed from steel cut oats). The eggs actually made my a little sick. So i had my bulgur and then a "granola" bar I made last night for during my run. Yum.

Clothes:
My usual. New shoes, tights, workout pants, wicking shirt, fleece jacket, HRM, and head gear. I eventually need to upgrade my socks. They are regular cotton socks.

Warm up:
I need to work on this. I do some jogging in the house and some stretching (very light). I jog about as I collect items i need (cell phone, mp4 player, food, tissues).

The Run:
The original plan was for 10.65 miles. Most of which would be in the road since the sidewalks are still snowed in. I had to cut part of the park off the route due to snow. I also had to cut out a bridged area because it was a blind corner and the sidewalk was still covered. I decided that was a little to risky to try with traffic picking up. I also made a small wrong turn. In the end I made it just around 10 miles (might be 9.98 or so but maps make it hard to determine)

I had to do a little walking up a tall hill. Not too bad. I took the opportunity to clean the ice off my eyelashes. This is also about where I ran out of unused tissues :(.

Snacks:
I ate three granola chunks between miles 4 and 8. Yum. They work pretty well. Still working on a good, clean, and run friendly version.

Back home:
I walked around the house to cool down and then did some stretching and water drinking. Not enough stretching. I got cold pretty quickly and went to take a shower. Stretched more after the warmness. Unfortunately DH had recently taken a shower and used most of the hot water, darn. I'll need to do more walking and stretching later.

Aches and Pains:
Muscle under the knee was tight for the end of the run, no pain though. Hamstrings still tight from Thursday Weights Class.

Overall not a bad run.
Time: 2 hours 15 minutes, so a 4.4mph rate. I'm getting better!
