3rd place in Dog Obedience Class

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

Last night was my final dog obedience class with Holly. I expected to not really do that well. I had never really practiced stand stay with Holly and Holly wouldn't sit stay or lie down stay in class when lined up with the other dogs. In all the previous nights of training she would inevitability roll over and not want to get back up. Well last night there was no rolling. She sat stay perfectly and almost lay down stay the whole 3 minutes (I had never practiced that long, so I was impressed). I lost all our points for the stays because I repeated the commands twice - oops, but we made up for it in the rest of the obedience tests.

Woo Hoo!!

I did the beginner class my dog, Hank, to help puppyhood be more manageable. I wanted him to sit, stay, walk on a leash, and not eat my shoes. Obedience training did all that. At least I learned about substituting behavior (hey.. that sounds like spark people life style training). Reading your blog makes me want more from Hank. I've been thinking awhile about taking him through the next level of obedience class. You've inspired me to go sign up for that next class. A stay for three minutes would rock my boat! Thanks!
