I ran in a 4 mile race yesterday called the Truffle Shuffle. My goal was to finish in under 46 minutes since I have been consistently running 11:30 min/miles when training.
To my surprise I was running a 10 min/mile the entire race!! I pushed myself a bit more than training, but not so much that I needed to stop and walk or even slow down. I couldn't believe it when I passed the 1 mile mark and they called out 9:48 as the time, and then 19:59 at 2 miles, and 30:02 at 3 miles!!! I finished in 40:03!
I am so proud of myself!! Especially because there were 700 or so people at the event and I started in the front so after the first mile it felt like EVERYONE had already passed me! But I forced myself to keep going, not look back, and stay at a manageable pace. It was a big challenge to only focus on myself and not try to keep up with the pack. I live in a big track town, so there are always a lot of serious racers at all the events. I was 459/670 so a lot of people passed me, but I kept myself at a sustainable pace. I felt incredible when I passed that finish line and saw my time! This was a great experience to help me get ready for the half-marathon in May!
