I need a challenge.

Saturday, February 06, 2010

Last April I ate a vegetarian diet for a month. Aside from one slip-up, it went really well. I did so because I needed a challenge to get myself in a healthy mindset.

I need that again.

(I just ate an entire 4-serving Valentine's Day Reese's Peanut Butter heart... 780 Calories or something like that... ugh.)

I need a slap in the face, and I need it soon.

So, I'm going to challenge myself again similar to what I did in April 2009.

I think I'm going to eat a VEGAN (yes, vegan) diet from February 15 through March 15th. I've decided this timeframe because I want it to be soon-ish, but also want it to involve something fun/funny/interesting... so I chose the "ides of March" (March 15th) to be the end-date. This way, I can start 9 days from now. Soon, but not too soon as I can prepare, food shop, etc.

At this point I consider myself a flexitarian -- I eat meat, but very rarely. I love meat but I don't need to eat it.

I think it'll be a good challenge, but not too difficult. I already don't drink milk very much (I drink unsweetened almond milk) and, as I said, I eat vegetarian very easily.

My only concern will be protein, of course. Right now I eat lots of eggs. I go through at least a dozen eggs in an average week. I also love love love greek yogurt (and yogurt in general) as well as cheese. I'm not a huge fan of soy cheese (the one time I tried it, at least) but I'm willing to experiment a bit.

I also hope to incorporate this into my blog (which I've been neglecting lately, whoops!) to show vegan alternatives to fast food meals. That'll be interesting!

Anyway, it's time for me to own up to and get over the fact that I ate nearly 800 Calories of candy in a mere 2 minutes. Ugh.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

That's a great challenge! I've been a vegetarian for the majority of my life, and also vegan. Good luck!

I've been thinking this also! I was going to try being vegan for the month of February (I'm already a vegetarian), but then went home and my mom makes THE BEST veggie lasagne and I couldn't turn it down. I was thinking of starting at the beginning of March because I'm going to Cuba for a week at the end of February and I don't want to be on such a strict diet while I'm on vacation :) I'm sure you already know this but you have to be careful to read the ingredient labels on food because sooo many things contain these prodcuts. Good luck! I'll be interested to see how it goes and to try out some of your recipes :)

don't beat yourself up about it, you admitted it, you know how many calories you have consumed so it's not mindless binging.

I am with ya sis! I rarely eat meat but I love me a chicken schwarma.. Don't eat red meat or seafood..but if the steak is PERFECTLY prepared..I wont turn down a bite.. but wont buy or cook the shiznit..

Someone asked me what I "am".. I said I am a "nothing-a-tarian"... I decide daily what I will eat.. But I am strong against limited meat cuz it quite frankly grosses me out!

Give me some pizza tho and it's on! emoticon
