#219: Will You Trust a Genie?

Wednesday, February 03, 2010

We all likely recall the fable of the magic lamp and the genie that promised the lamp holder three wishes that all came true.

Suppose a genie or doctor or friend or stranger approached you and, knowing how much you want to lose weight, told you that he or she had helped one million people to lose weight, that there had never been a failure and that the same help could be extended to you.

Why do I suspect that most of us would be skeptical and disbelieving, not of the person's successes, but of our inability to see ourselves as someone who was at our goal weight?

Are we that quick to condemn ourselves in negativity?

Surely, if the person's record was 1,000,000 wins and zero losses, wouldn't we be assured of our success if we let them show us the way?

Isn't that what the multitude of SP members like JOHNHARNEY, TSABONIS and others are telling us after they have lost 100 pounds? "Do what we did," they effectively say, "and you, too, can lose weight."

Or, as SPARKGUY says, "Follow this program that many thousands of people have followed successfully and you, too, will achieve your goals."

Of course, these are not direct quotes, but essentially say what these wise people are telling us by their actions -- follow the program to lose weight and gain better health.

To me, to want to be an achiever in any field means finding those at the top of the field and do what they have done, believe what they believe and think the way they think.

That's a key ingredient to being successful.

So, the genie has appeared in SP and its many commendable members who have lost even more than 100 pounds. The genie has told us, "Follow the eating and exercising program as I have set it out for you, step by step, and you will be successful beyond your wildest dreams."

Will we be willing to listen? Will we follow those who have shown us a proven track record? Or will we let that innate negativity stop us from pursuing our dreams?

I vote for trusting the genie. How about you?

What an incredible group of genies we have here, too. How thankful I am for those trailblazers who have led the way for me. That's especially important for those of us who have a long, long road ahead on our journeys. Just knowing SOMEONE has met my particular dragon and slayed him is such a relief!! I'm with you, Lou, following in their footsteps, listening to them when they tell me how vital exercise is, what nutrition tips they've learned.
