Teaching today...

Tuesday, February 02, 2010

I was able to teach today- in a high school art class and I was confronted with attitude by a few of the students. I realized right off the bat that the attitude wasn't towards me personally, but towards the fact that I was a temporary teacher in an elective class- go figure! I am going to learn to let the negative feedback from the students roll off my back- it is something I need to work on - not only during the years I sub, but during the years I will have my own classroom! I have the same kids tomorrow and I am hoping for a better day- we'll see, because I am not going away. I sub tomorrow and again on Friday- I do look forward to the paycheck reguarless of how little it is :)

It will all be for something- I am sure of it!

Hi sweetie! I'm sorry you had to suffer that kind of attitude. We all get that from time to time. But hang in there. When the kids begin to know you they will change. One child swore at me a couple of weeks ago and went to punch me - he is 7 years old. It's not just high school where these things happen. There are some delicate little dears out there.

I worked with a child who has emotional and behavioural difficulties today. It was the first time. I loved every minue of it. We got on well together and I loved playing games with him. He even did some maths with me which is a first! He isn't always so easy going, so I felt blessed today!

    Sending you some hugs xxx

I am a first year teacher and I have had to learn to let stuff roll off my back and try not to take it too personally. I teach 8th grade US History and its hard at times but the important thing is that you keep at it and keep trying. Its hard but when you least expect it the students will show there sweet side. Good luck!

I am a high school principal and you are on the right track...let it roll off of your back. The kids mean well, but it is their nature to try to get your attention by any means necessary. I know that you treat them with respect and you will find that they will come around and do the same.
Hang in there and have a good week!
